Ryan Kitchen Design
The brief
To design kitchen joinery and spatial plan for busy young family. They needed a kitchen that is highly functional and organised and they believe the kitchen is the heart of the home.
Response
You need a kitchen that can handle daily workflow, casual entertaining and be an organisational hub for the family.
With this brief in mind, I started to plan the zones in the space and I quickly realised that the supervision of the young children will be a high priority over the next few years. This said, the ideal space for supervision is in the corner of the L shaped floorplan. By designing the joinery around the windows it will be a light filled centre of the entire open plan space.
I included a Blum Space Tower next to the wall oven and microwave as it is great utilisation of the narrow space available. I have included wide shallow drawers with Blum dividing systems so that you can put your hands on what you are looking for easily. I have included deeper drawers on the bottom of the cabinets for appliance storage such as your slower cooker, thermomix etc.
The Ryan’s are conscience of the environment and I have specified a Blum wide under sink drawer cabinet with four bin recycling system. The drawer under the sink wraps around the sink as a utilisation of space for storing cleaning products. All drawers are Blum soft close and push to open hinges which is so important with children slamming drawers!
On the breakfast bar bench, I have included a Gessi pull out sink mixer a one and a quarter under mount sink that works from left to right. I have specified integrated appliances to increase space on the bench and create a seamless aesthetic. Two AEG wall ovens and microwave convection oven, a Meile coffee machine and a comfort lift dishwasher.
The Ryan’s told me they like black cabinetry and white bench tops with an soft industrial feel. I have specified a Polytec Venette Black Matte finish and Caesar Stone benchtops in a finish called Fresh Concrete as they are both hardy and easy to clean with children.
I have specified two native Australian timber inspired finishes to bring warm and contrast to the space. Polytec Tasmanian Oak Woodmatt joinery and Black Butt engineered flooring. With all the natural light it will provide the casual and warm heart of the home the Ryan’s wanted.
