Retail Design - Fashion Store

Design Intent

This design is for a fashion store that retails quality Australian labels. The strategy is to clearly define the customer journey through the store and maximise the retail merchandise space. It has a luxurious almost art deco feel. Most importantly, this design provides Regional NSW women with a shopping experience parallel to those in urban Australia, an opportunity to escape and feel as though have had a little slice of luxury in their day. This is important to my client’s philosophy.

Spatial Planning

This is a long and narrow space, a design challenge. I have divided the store into zones around the built structure of the store. I have achieved this using changes in the ceiling height and custom joinery designed between the engaged piers. When customers enter the store they are welcomed by a round custom made leather seat, straight away inviting customers to stay awhile, rest and enjoy the experience.

The journey flows through the store leading to the focal point at the counter. I have created a clear line of site through the length of the store by placing round low platforms for merchandising down the centre of the store, this space is not at eye level. The suspended curved clothing racks float above curved platforms for a second level of display space. It is a symmetrical design that is well suited to a high end fashion store.

Lighting Plan

The lighting strategy reinforces this journey with LED downlights mimicking the joinery and highlighting the niches as focus points behind the counter. I have included task lighting over the change rooms and counter and a stunning modern adjustable contemporary chandelier as accent lighting.

Materials and Finishes

The materials palate features Laminex Planked Urban Oak, rattan, brushed brass, CDK Carrara Marble and luxurious green velvet. The space has been stripped bare with white painted masonary walls and polished concrete floors. The timber and brass bring warmth and contrast to the concrete and white walls. The feature wallpaper builds the mood of escapism. These elements combine to achieve the design intent.

This is a retail fit out that would not be out of place in Melbourne, it is relatively neutral palate that will allow the beautiful stock in the shop to bring colour and pattern to the space. What a beautiful experience for regional women!
